VAN CLEEF & ARPELS EXHIBITION SHANGHAI

VAN CLEEF & ARPELS EXHIBITION SHANGHAI “PONT DES AMOUREUX”

In January 2021, Van Cleef & Arpels will be celebrating some of its emblematic sources of inspiration, at a watchmaking event open to the general public in Shanghai. Pieces from the Maison’s heritage and contemporary creations will be revealed in an immersive environment that recreates the charm of Paris. Alongside the Jewelry and High Jewelry collections, Van Cleef & Arpels’ watches take center stage in four of its cherished universes: love stories – notably with the Pont des Amoureux collection –, ballerinas and fairies, Poetic Astronomy and Enchanting Nature. Each creation relates an instant of grace and enchantment, expressing the Poetry of Time unique to the Maison.

CHANEL SPRING SUMMER 2021

It was a beautiful day for an outdoor wedding. Beneath a bright-blue winter sky, under the dome of the Grand Palais, Chanel hosted an intimate wedding-themed presentation in the round, complete with arbors of wildflowers, fairy lights and a bride on a white horse. “I knew we couldn’t organise a big show, so I came up with the idea of a small cortege, like a family celebration,” creative director Virginie Viard offered in her notes. Vogue was invited behind the scenes of the production, which this season was closed to the public in keeping with Covid-19 precautions.

What would it look like if one of Manolo Valdés’ Menina sculptures were to simply lift her skirt and float off of her pedestal? Stéphane Rolland showed us exactly this, with a series of Menina dresses that capped his spring couture lineup — and stole the show. At once light and imposing, they had full skirts of silk gazar that sprang out of taut corsets embellished with golden chains and woven leather, and, for the finale, a train affixed to the back of a shoulder-less wedding gown.

SCHIAPARELLI SS 2021

Daniel Roseberry hasn’t hit the two-year mark at Schiaparelli yet, but his tenure-defining moment has been made. Last Wednesday, Lady Gaga wore a black fitted jacket, red silk faille ball skirt, and a golden dove brooch of his design to sing the national anthem at President Joe Biden’s inauguration.

“I’m shaken to the core, to be honest. It was such an honor,” said Roseberry, who’s a native Texan. “I remember when Thom [Browne] dressed Michelle Obama for the second inauguration [Browne is Roseberry’s alma mater]. Whenever anybody wrote about him afterward—for years—it was the opening line. For a house like Schiaparelli,” he continued, “dressing Gaga for the inauguration speaks to capturing the moment. That’s what I’m trying to do with all of our celebrity moments: to nail the zeitgeist.”
